Mia Lorick, Eric Tonsul and Jane Janecek Earn New
Board Certifications
We are proud to announce Shareholders Mia Lorick, Eric
Tonsul and Jane Janecek have earned new board certifications from the
Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Eric is now Board Certified in Property Owners
Association Law and Jane adds Property Owners Association Law to her
Board Certification in Residential Real Estate Law. Eric and Jane are a
part of a special group of only 41 total attorneys Board Certified in
POA Law. At RMWBH, we are proud to now have nine attorneys Board
Certified in POA Law.
Mia is now Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law. The
Civil Appellate exam is one of the most grueling exams the TBLS offers.
Only 20 percent of the attorneys who take the exam pass the exam, which
makes this accomplishment for Mia all the more impressive. Mia becomes
our first attorney Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law. We are now
proud to boast a roster of 17 attorneys Board Certified in their
respective fields.
Congratulations to Mia, Eric and Jane on these great
accomplishments!

Leah Burton Joins Our San Antonio Office
Our roster of knowledgeable attorneys across the state
continues to grow with Leah Burton joining our San Antonio office as a
Shareholder on the Community Association Law team.
Leah has built a career representing property owners
associations on all aspects of issues involved in the operation and
governance of subdivision, condominium, commercial and cooperative
associations.

Brady Ortego Named CAI San Antonio Business Partner of
the Year
At this year's CAI Gala, Equity Shareholder Brady Ortego
received a special honor from the San Antonio chapter of CAI. Brady was
named their 2019 Business Partner of the Year.
Brady has spent countless hours working with CAI over
the last year from speaking at numerous monthly luncheons, to traveling
to Washington D.C. with CAI San Antonio Chapter President Judy Monger
to represent the chapter in advocating on behalf of community
associations in front of various members of Congress.
Brady looks forward to representing the CAI San Antonio
chapter for years to come and wants to thank everyone who made this
award possible.

Rick Anderson is a Leader Not Just in the Courtroom But
the Community As Well
You would think having a full slate of client work would
be enough for most attorneys but for Shareholder Rick Anderson, he
prides himself on working in the community and in 2020 Rick will have a
full slate of work in the community.
This year, Rick is working with several organizations in
a leadership capacity. He is now the Chair for CLE at the Houston Bar
Association, President for Texas ACA and is the Executive Chairman for
the Epilepsy Foundation.
We are looking forward to seeing everything Rick
accomplishes in the community throughout the year!

Marc Markel, Clint Brown and Teddy Holtz
Co-Authored Paper Presented at CAI's 2020 Annual Law Conference
During the recent CAI 2020 Annual Law Conference in Las
Vegas, Equity Shareholder Marc Markel and Shareholder Clint Brown had
the opportunity to present on Navigating the Collection Timeline in View
of the FDCPA, Bankruptcy Code, and State Law Requirements, a
paper they co-authored with Associate Teddy Holtz.

The implementation of security cameras and surveillance
systems by property owners’ associations has been a point of
controversy over the past few years. Many associations welcome the idea
due to the marketed benefits cameras may provide, such as preserving
common areas, discouraging vandalism, a sense of security for residents
(possibly misplaced) and/or providing evidence of the failure of an
entry gate operation. However, the legality relating to cameras has
raised concerns and introduced new dilemmas for associations.
